🚨POWER MOVE: Google‘s new agentic checkout isn’t just killing pages, it’s killing entire business models.

Google introduced « Shop with AI mode ».

You can now shop and buy without ever visiting a retailers website.

This isn’t about payments.
It’s about who owns the customer.

And Wall Street noticed: Shopify dropped 𝟱% within hours of the announcement.

Here’s what just changed 👇

Google’s Gemini 2.5 now handles checkout directly from search.

No product page, no cart, no redirect.

This changes the $5.5T e-commerce equation.

And it’s brutal:

• 💳 $138B/year in payment processing fees
• 🧪 $7.8B in checkout optimization tools
• 🛡️ $37B in e-commerce fraud prevention

Every layer of that stack now faces disintermediation.

Google just positioned itself to capture ALL of this value.

Most analysts are focused on payments.

They’re wrong.

The real disruption is 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵.

When the transaction happens 𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺, everything shifts:

• SEO becomes even more expensive
• landing pages & checkout pages become irrelevant
• Product data = your new storefront (AI discoverability!)
• Loyalty shifts from brand → AI agent

This is all coming « in a few months ».

A lot of open questions remain.

• Do we need agent identities?
• How do we handle fraud?

What’s clear:

This isn’t a UX update.
It’s a rewrite of the $5.5T e-commerce stack.

And the AI – Google – now owns the funnel.

This is a wake-up call for all business leaders.
