#1 Don’t flop the site visit
Site visits are your hotel’s job interview. It’s the moment a client decides if you’re “the one” or just another maybe.
I’ve been on the other side of dozens of these visits, and honestly, some were painful.
The top fails:
- Being left waiting for the sales manager
- Meeting someone who knows nothing about me or my needs
- Even worse, meeting someone who barely knows their own hotel
That’s like showing up to a date and forgetting the other person’s name.

If you want to nail this moment, check out this simple playbook for hotel site visits.
A little prep goes a long way, and it could be the difference between winning a deal or losing it to the hotel next door.

#2 Healthy coffee break
Afternoon coffee breaks are a perfect moment to surprise your guests. Instead of the usual pastries and sandwiches, think healthier and more exciting.
Guests don’t want a sugar crash at 3 PM, they want an energy boost.
|
|
|
|
I saw these healthy snacks last week at EHL and loved them!
Some more ideas:
- Fruit skewers with a drizzle of dark chocolate
- Chia pudding shots with tropical toppings
- Apple slices with nut butter dips
These options look better, feel premium, and deliver more energy than a croissant.
With a bit more effort, you elevate the guest experience while also justifying a higher price point than “just fruit.”
Guests walk away energized, not sleepy, and they’ll remember that detail long after the coffee is gone.

#3 Mirrors with a secret
When you enter the lobby of the Andaz Amsterdam, you’ll spot a wall of sleek displays. At first glance, they look like mirrors.
But switch them on, and suddenly they transform into fully customizable digital screens.
|
|
|
|
Hotels can use them to personalize the space for events, show tailored messages, or create a branded experience.
The best part? When not in use, they don’t ruin the design of the lobby like clunky screens often do. They simply blend in.
It’s smart design: technology that’s there when you need it, invisible when you don’t.

#3.5 How to sell your hotel without anyone knowing?
Not every owner wants the world to know their hotel is up for sale.
Maybe you don’t want your employees panicking, your competitors celebrating, or your neighbors gossiping.
Instead of blasting your listing publicly, or use an agent with a tiny network, there is a 3rd option:
Share your hotel for sale confidentially with vetted buyers at Buy That Hotel.

#4 Tripadvisor as a secret sales touch point
Many hoteliers have written Tripadvisor off as a relic from the 2010s. It doesn’t drive bookings like it used to, so it quietly slipped down the priority list.
But here’s the catch: while hotels forgot about it, guests didn’t.
|
|
|
At Surf Office, we’ve seen this firsthand. Corporate clients booking retreats almost always peek at Tripadvisor before confirming a hotel.
It’s a silent sales touchpoint nobody talks about.
So, dust off your profile. Reply to reviews, ask happy guests to leave one, and check that your photos and descriptions are up to date.
Because while Tripadvisor may not send you direct bookings, it could still be tipping that scales in your favor.

That’s all for now, have a fantastic rest of the week!
Cheers, Peter from Hotel Nuggets
