ChatGPT checkout is for boring and expensive buys. Things that need research to figure out what to buy. I don’t think it works for expensive and fun items like fashion or sport because that needs… | Juozas Kaziukėnas

📢 You can now buy on ChatGPT 🤯

OpenAI takes another step toward agentic commerce with the launch of Instant Checkout in ChatGPT — a feature that lets users purchase products directly within the conversation.

🔹 Built on the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), an open standard developed with Stripe, Instant Checkout is now available in the U.S. for Plus, Pro, and free plan users.

👉 How does it work?
Until now, ChatGPT could only recommend products after a search. With Instant Checkout, if you ask for “yellow raincoats under $30,” it will not only suggest options but also let you buy them without leaving the chat. Just click “Buy” and confirm your shipping and payment details using your saved card or an express method.

💳 The service is free for users — merchants pay a small commission. Order management and fulfillment remain under the merchant’s responsibility, while ChatGPT acts as a personal AI shopping assistant, securely transmitting information.

🌍 Currently, Instant Checkout works with Etsy merchants, but OpenAI has confirmed that over 1 million Shopify stores will be added soon. Multi-item carts and international expansion are also planned, with broader availability expected in 2026.

🔐 Security is key: encrypted payment tokens, explicit user authorization at each step, and minimal data sharing ensure trust and control.
💡 With this move, OpenAI isn’t just expanding ChatGPT’s capabilities — it’s shaping the future of conversational commerce, where AI agents handle real purchases seamlessly.
