An interesting look at the top #FMCG companies by #ecommerce sales and where they sell – by top 3 markets and top 3 retailers. It’s a great visual of their 2024 sales, confirming much of what we know but also revealing a few great insights. My key takeaways:
🛒 Private label brands: A reminder of their significance, with Walmart the #1 overall, plus Kroger, Tesco, E.Leclerc and Sainsbury’s also making the list
🛒 Amazon is the top retailer for 9 of the top 25 companies, also in the top three for another 7
🛒 Walmart is also the top retailer for 9 companies, with another 7 within the top 3 – Sam’s Club gives them one more for their own products
🛒 Instacart is more important to beverage brands The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo and Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. than Amazon
🛒 Tmall enters the scene for personal care manufacturers like L’Oréal and The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.
🛒 Nestlé is the only product manufacturer with a #D2C platform that ranks in the top 25, holding their own alongside the global #retailer & #marketplace players – Walmart isn’t in their top 3
🛒 HelloFresh also ranks with sales greater than Tesco or Sainsbury’s, with Coles Group driving the most sales, outside their owned channels
🛒 If you exclude the retailers themselves & HelloFresh – the rest of the top 25 all have Amazon or Walmart in their top 3 – sometimes both (12 companies)
🛒 However, everything stores are not the only game in town – Chewy, (Kroger owned) Vitacost.com and SEPHORA show that there is room at the top for specialist players
How many of the retailers in Top 25 (that sell multiple brands) have a #RetailMedia offering? All of them.
